About me

After studying for several years in sports and various areas of the industry around sport I thought that living in Cornwall it would be better for me to take a different career direction. I volunteered at Robert Allen Architects and fortunately secured a permanent position at the business. I worked for a year learning the ropes and my way around the CAD system. I then progressed to completing my ONC and HNC at Cornwall College and Plymouth University in construction and building studies.

I have developed my skills in all areas and was fortunate enough to gain experience in running contracts, concept drawings, sketch designs, detailed drawings and worked closely with structural engineers throughout my time at Robert Allen Architects.

Following the completion of my courses in 2009, Robert Allen kindly offered Chris and I the opportunity to take over the business due to ill health. We took the opportunity and have been running the business to this day. I now have a much more interactive position in the office as we have our own clients and jobs and take many jobs from initial site meeting all the way through the design stages and project management on site.

We currently work on Apple Mac Computer software and run the latest version of ArchiCAD. It’s quite a detailed system to use but allows us to provide all the services we need in the job including 3D designs if our clients prefer to view the designs this way as 2D is not clear to everyone.

I have progressed my membership at CIAT from being a student member and have used the skills needed for this in our workplace.  The majority of the work I do is based on residential extensions and new builds but I have also had the opportunity to work on some larger commercial jobs.

I enjoy that I get to meet new people in the job I am in and find it rewarding when you see a final project and how pleased the clients are with the work we have done. Our business is expanding and I look forward to much more of the same.
